Twirling Hula Girl

This watercolor is yet another Illustration Friday illustration. The word of the week is, “twirl”. I imagined a twirling hula girl. I was going to draw a cowboy twirling his lasso, but my mind drifted to the exquisite shores of Hawaii. The fellow at the front of the composition is rocking his ukulele. If the word, “ukulele” ever comes up I am already ready!

Like the way the girl looks, especially with the palms framing her. You have just got to get the guy out of the picture or regulate him to the background and put him behind a shrub or something. The statue of Jean-Luc Picard is also pretty cool. And don’t tell me you didn’t intend to idolize him; most of our devotion to Patrick Stewart is on a subconscious level.

Hey! Thanks for your comment on my ‘twirl’ image. To answer your question, I draw everything on the computer from sketch to final tweaks 🙂 I love your watercolours, particularly your godzilla. Your use of pencil cross hatching under paint is brill!

Hula girl as a solution to ‘Twirl’ is a great idea. There’s not just the dancer’s movement, but the movement of the grass skirt plays into the topice.
