An illustration of poor Mr. Humpty Dumpty

I created this illustration years ago with colored pencils and markers. My illustration teacher felt it was too graphic and I think he was right. Poor Humpty Dumpty will not be saved by all the king’s horses and all the king’s men; I have a feeling they cannot put him back together again.

Like the picture. This was part of your fairy tale series, right? You should illustrate some of the whimsical Grimm brothers’ tales- “And then they stuck the naughty step-mother in a barrel with nails pounded into it, attached her to Mr. Ed, that wondrous horse, and whipping him repeatedly, drove the barrel around town.” Or, maybe, not. An eviscerated egg is actually probably better.

    • Nate,
I cannot remember what the assignment was for this illustration. Grimm fairy tales in their original form are brutal. They certainly encourage children not to go wondering off in the woods. Thanks for the comment.
