Homage to The Ghost of Captain Cutler

Here is another drawing from my sketch book that is a homage to Scooby-Doo.  The original episodes from Hanna-Barbera Productions, “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You” and “The Scooby-Doo Show” were big influences on my interest in drawing and monsters.   I remember being particularity fascinated by The Ghost of Captain Cutler.

I found a sketch you did of an old diving suit from 2011 or so, tracked it here to look at the newest entry and what do you know- there just happens to be another diving suit sketch!

I read on the old sketch that you were fascinated by the Scooby Doo episode so it’s nice to see the character, I like them both. I’m actually working on a graphic novel where the main character wears a old diving suit!

    Great sketches 🙂

  2. Joe, thank you for the nice comment. There is something compelling about old diving suits. I think it is the mysterious nature of the suit and the sense of adventure they invoke. I wish you well on your graphic novel. Thanks again for the comment.

Very cool picture. I like how the dark night sky and water create a simple but compelling backdrop that emphasizes the creepy nature of this old diver ghost. Moreover, the vacant suit helmet and deadness of space mirror each other. I feel like he is actually coming at me. Well done. That was one scary villain on Scooby Doo. I do wonder how he managed to chase those blasted kids wearing diving boots though?

  4. Nate, good point. How did Captain Cutler chase those blasted kids wearing diving boots? As always, thanks for the comment.
