Drawings of More Monsters

I created these drawings with a Staedtler Fineliner pen and a Faber-Castell brush artist pen.   These two drawings are some more Fiend Folio inspired illustrations.  The TSR Fiend Folio is a book my brother owned when I was a kid.  The book is filled with illustrations of heaps of imaginative creatures malevolent and benign.  As a disclaimer, these drawings are neither created nor are they endorsed by the current copyright holders of TSR’s former property.  These are two drawings of a Beholder and an Owlbear.  I always thought the Owlbear is one of the most ridiculous and interesting of TSR’s creatures.  This Owlbear is surprised to find competition at its fishing spot.  Owlbear copy Beholdercopy

These are great. I especially love the second one!

Great pictures! I like the owl bear. Is that intelligence/wisdom combined with strength? Like an insightful book that doubles as a battleax? Would OBs gore or peck you to death? Do they still hack up fur balls and screw with the Department of the Interior? I found your symbolism very poignant, the fish eating the other fish, the viking girl and the owl bear, who looks like someone just took his lunch. Is this also an homage to Scooby Doo? The beholder is very cool. Neat cave scene with the bats and track star. One would wonder how beholders float and why they are intent on eating, just being a head, of sorts. Oh Darwin, leaving my TSRing alone.

  3. Nate, I think it would peck you to death. You are right, applying the laws of natural science to TSR does not really work out. Still, why does a Beholder float and if it has no stomach why does it have a mouth? Why!
