The Creepy Heap from the Deep

I thought this was one of the scariest Scooby Doo monsters when I was a kid.  The Creepy Heap from the Deep is frightening with its seaweed hair, crab claw tentacles and single wondering eyeball. It was supposedly the cursed spirit of an evil pirate, but it turned out to be just some guy in a mask in the end.  I colored the ink drawing in Photoshop.  This illustration went quickly.  The whole thing took about three hours inking, coloring and all.

  1. Great stuff!
It always turns out to be “just some guy in a mask”.

They had some very creepy creatures on that show. That was one of the scary ones, though as with Cobra, it always seemed like the villians efforts would be better spent in other endevors. I like how the coloring came out with its dark, subdued hues. The background is perfect too with the spooky ocean scene and the bat like birds on that isolated clift. Very well done homage to the Heap from the Deep.

Haha! What a goofy creature! I don’t remember him from Scooby-Doo, but he definitely has some of that style. Great limited palette too.
