Another illustration for Inktober 2018.  The Mind Flayer is a creature from the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game. They are also called Illithid and are monstrous humanoids with psionic powers.  Illithids feed on the brains of sentient creatures.  They typically live in the caverns and cities of the enormous Underdark.

NICE. Love the details on this one. And that dagger looks wicked!

  2. Brilliant, as always!👏👏☺ Do you draw with a pen? If you do, how do you get the background so nice and even?

    • David says:

Stavanger at Placid Painting, I use a sharpie for the background, typically. For most of the line work I use a Pigma fine brush pen. The brush pens are made by the Japanese company Sakura. The company Pentel makes a good brush pen, as well Pentel’s brush pens also have refillable ink. To make the background a consistent black I just adjust the contrast on the scanned in JPG file in Photoshop. That takes out any ink gradations in the background.

  3. Aha! Thanks for the tip. It looks really good ☺

Very cool Mind Flayer. The torn tunic, mimicking the tentacles, is a nice touch, along with the skull. Well done as always!

Oooh, great Mindflayer! Great squid head and belt detail.
