About David Jernigan

Welcome to my sketch blog.  I created this blog to encourage myself to draw regularly.  Drawing helps us to think, invent and communicate and I have always been a firm believer in its indispensable importance to any illustrator. I will strive to post sketches as often as possible.

In 1999, I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus, Ohio with a major in illustration.

Currently, I reside in Las Vegas. I have worked for various clients, including Creative Learning Press, Global Learning Press, Longman Press and Proctor Publications.

I create my illustrations using a multitude of art media such as acrylic, oil washes, markers and pen and ink. My focus of subject matter is primarily humorous children’s illustrations, though I enjoy illustrating a variety of topics.  I hope you enjoy browsing my blog, and be sure to look at my portfolio page.

Hi David, I was just wondering if you would mind if one of your designs was used on a T-shirt. Thanks!

  2. David,

I’m a fellow Las Vegan and I do a bit of self-publishing of role playing games. Love those monsters – I was wondering if you accept commissions. If so, I would love an idea of your rates.

John Stater, I sent a message to your yahoo email address. I love drawing monsters. I’m sure we can work something out particularly for a fellow Las Vegan.

Hi David, I stumbled across your blog and I love your work. Like the last poster, I’m interested to know if you’d be up for a small commission piece – I think you’d be a great guy for the job!

    • David says:

Paul, thanks for stopping by my blog. What commission piece do you have in mind?

Hi David, sorry for the slow reply – – I’ve been watching for you via email and just now thought to check back here. I’m looking for an aquatic monster to serve as a template for a tattoo. I’ve got a particular “open area” on an arm that really needs a creature inked in and I’d love it if you’d be up for doing the initial design — your work is pretty great! If you are up for it, then email would work well so that I can pass on a photo of the “blank spot” on my arm so you could see the shape/scale we’d be working with. Thanks! Paul.

Nate, good to hear the trip is going well. I made it back to the States just fine. You can set up a new temporary email account if you need to. Keep enjoying the trip.

  6. David, I love your Ghost of Captain Cutler! Could my band use it for coloring pages at shows, and maybe as a background for a lyric music video? We will give you all the credit we have to give!

    • David says:

Robert Kincaid, that would be fine. My illustration is a fan art illustration of The Ghost of Captain Cutler. I don’t own the rights to Captain Cutler, I just created my own version of the character from Scooby Doo.
